What's NYNOW ?

So, I once had the opportunity to be a part of silver jewelry company before participating in the NYNOW (New York Now) 2019 event. The exhibition was held by BCIC (Bali Creative Industry Centre) together with the Provincial Government of Bali to increase the export of Indonesian handicrafts and fashion products to the U.S. market. What is special here is the curator being invited to work together is Jenneifer Isaacson, a professional curator from the US.

I'm honored to be given this opportunity by the owners of the company, working with their experienced marketing managers whom in charge of introducing this product in overseas exhibitions. I'm new to this field and I have the opportunity to help display products. For the selection of silver jewelry collections, carried out by manager in accordance with the company's mission and the purpose of this exhibition in order to penetrate the U.S. market.

We carry two-three silver collection and one of them is an upcoming product that will be marketed in April 2019 (if not mistakenly remembered) and what impresses me is because this product takes the form of flowers that are often found in Bali and that's Frangipani Flower.

Second display : Frangipani collection

Before doing the exhibition, the manager taught me to
prepare the display along with the jewelry that will be exhibited. This must be matched with the size of the table, as well as the number of items desired to participate in the exhibition. We distinguish the two displays from the jewelry collection that will be included in the exhibition, this is adapted to the ideas / themes of the these silver collections, the first jewelry colection with a more modern theme and the second is with the local wisdom of Balinese culture.

First display : Padma Acala & Ayung Collection

What makes silver jewelry in Bali special?

It's because the craftsmen use traditional bun-bunan and jejawanan techniques. This technique is a hereditary technique of silversmiths in the area of Celuk Village - Gianyar, Bali. So, what is bun-bunan and jejawan technique?

• Bun-bunan is a traditional jewelry making technique that uses wire as ornamentation by installing curve-shaped wires and rolls into certain motifs such as Liman paya, Bun-bunan, Bun Util Jejawan, and so on.

• Jejawanan technique is also an ancient technique in the manufacture of silver jewelry making by installing silver balls of various sizes ranging from rather large sizes to fine sizes. Jawan can be installed by arranging and attaching them one by one on the plate using natural adhesive glue from fruit named Ancur.

What's the purpose of this exhibition ?

Of course the artisan and entrepreneurs want to introduce their products to foreign markets. Both the selected and the unable to get the opportunity, still gain valuable experience in this exhibition, through the presentation and curation process by a professional curator there is certainly much to be learned from it.
Too bad I didn't keep any photos from the real exhibition display, but I certainly won't forget the opportunity I was given at the time. I helped this event towards the end of my tenure at the company in March 2019, with this tight time I got a lot of experience from my workmates on the marketing team (although I was in a different division, but we have the same goal when it comes to the company).
